Why Teachers Teach
On my graduation night as our class proceeded through the halls from the cafeteria to the football field for the last time. I saw my teachers all smiles and so proud of us for our achievements. It was then at that moment that I had an epiphany. The sudden realization hit me as to this is why teachers do what they do so enthusiastically and dedicatedly. They do it to watch us graduate. To see us walk through the halls all dressed up in our mortar boards and gowns, tassles waiting to be turned. I had such a genuine feeling of gratitude and appreciation for all my teachers at that moment. After years of strife and anguish that I had inflicted upon all my teachers I suddenly felt sorry for them for how I reacted to their best efforts to turn a bad boy into an eager student. As we finally reached the football field and the excitement of the moment reached its crescendo I wanted to hug, kiss and thank every teacher from grade school to high school for their tireless efforts and extreme commitment to their craft. The reason why teachers teach is to see their students accomplish all they can and to walk proud upon graduation night ready to take on the world and make the world a better place for all.
